LARDI's Visit to the Attorney General of Kebbi State Hajiya Ramatu Adamu Gulma at the Ministry of Justice State Secretariat Brinin Kebbi
LARDI was introduced to the AG and sought partnership with the State in providing free legal services to indigent drug arrestees. The Hon. AG received the group warmly and connected us to a desk officer in the ministry who would oversee our work with the State Ministry of Justice.
Thereafter, pictures were taken and gift items were presented to the Hon. AG who thanked members for coming around to seek partnership with her office.

The LARDI mission team visited The Kebbi Medium Security Custodial Centre.They were received by the Officer in Charge G. Idris who welcomed members and gave a brief on the numbers of inmates and categories of offences.
At the end of the exercise, 11 inmates who were drug arrestees were interviewed during the Legal Clinic. Their rights were made known to them and they were admonished to be of good behavior.
The team reviewed the cases of the inmates at the end of the session and five inmates who had no legal representations were adopted. The trial dates at the Federal High Court Birnin Kebbi were recorded for immediate action.

The team comprising of Chinelo Uchendu Esq. (National Coordinator of LARDI), Rufai Muhammed Esq. (LARDI Clearinghouse Administrator), Abiola Olawole Esq. (Member, LARDI Abuja) and Illiasu Ibrahim Esq., (Ag. State Rep Kebbi State) were received by the Head of Operations Dr. Natti David Danjuma and the officer in charge of Welfare.
The essence of the advocacy visit is to build partnership with the NCS towards an increase in the standard of care to inmates and the respect of their human rights.
The mission team advocated for the welfare of the inmates in the custodial centers and for the NCS to continue in their good efforts at producing the inmates to court timeously, as well as refer those without lawyers facing drug charges to LARDI. The goal is to speed up adjudicatory process.

LARDI also visited the NDLEA office and they were received by a Team of the NDLEA personnel led by Mr Amos Bamidele, the Ag. State Commandant who spoke highly of #LARDI's activities in the State.
The team made a strong case for the protection of the rights of drug arrestees while in custody of the agency as well as their prompt arraignment before the Court of law.
They also used the opportunity to call on the agency to use its expertise in the area of counselling and rehabilitation of drug users.
The PRO of the command, Mr. Muhammed Dahiru specifically mentioned that in the command's own objective assessment, LARDI is the newest of the NGOs on drug and drug related issues, but the strongest of all, taking into consideration its impact in the state.
At the end of the visit, the team was taken on a tour of the facilities at the rehabilitation center of the command.

Team #LARDI Benue visited the NDLEA State Command in Makurdi. They met the Assistant State Commander Mr. Femi Agboalu and the NDLEA Benue State Prosecutor Mr. John Ameh Esq as well as other officers who received them warmly.
The officers promised to partner with members of LARDI in Benue State to administer justice to all drug arrestees.
The team also held a legal clinic with inmates in NDLEA custody where the dangers of drug use and trafficking were emphasized and reiterated. The inmates promised to desist from the act whenever and if they eventually get their freedom.

Team #LARDI Benue was at the Maximum Security Correctional Service, Makurdi, Benue State with ACC Dr. Alhaji Thomas (the Superintendent of the Centre).

The National Coordinator and leader of the team, Chinelo Uchendu. They were also admonished to avoid bad and criminal friends who most times drag them into bad habits of drug use and drug trafficking.

A visit was also paid to the NDLEA office in Benin. The team was received by the Deputy Commander Mr. Peter Ogar on behalf of the State Commander.
The meeting was fruitful as they promised to work with us to speedily dispense with cases of indigent drug arrestees.

We had our work plan meeting with State Representatives.
In order to keep within the COVID-19 guidelines, we had 3 sessions with 20 persons in attendance. Each session was held for 2 days during which members in attendance discussed the cases they have handled and the challenges they faced.
The 2021 work plan was extensively discussed, each group made suggestions on how we can do better in providing free legal services to drug arrestees.
